Rolling Stones begin Europe summer tour in Spain

NEW YORK (Billboard) - The Rolling Stones will bring their world tour to Europe next summer, beginning May 27 in Barcelona.

Stadium dates are on tap through August 29 in Cardiff, Wales, with additional shows still to be announced in Russia, Greece, Croatia, Serbia/Montenegro, Portugal, Denmark, Switzerland and Ireland. Tickets begin going on sale December 3.

As with the North American stadium shows, the Stones are making several hundred seats for each European performance available within a special area built into the stage, allowing fans to get a good view of the audience.

The North American portion of the tour, which is on pace to shatter all previous box office records, will run through December 3 in Memphis. The Stones have also confirmed a performance at the Sprint Super Bowl XL Halftime Show, set for February 5 at Detroit’s Ford Field.

Europe fish quota battle to begin

Europe fish quota battle to begin European ministers meet on Tuesday for the annual process of setting fisheries quotas for the year ahead. The European Commission is proposing cuts in quotas for cod, a small increase for herring and major curbs on deep-sea fishing. Scientific advice issued in October recommended the suspension of all cod fishing in some areas. But lobbying by the industry means it is likely to continue, despite the parlous state of some populations. Under Britain's EU presidency, the discussions in Brussels will be chaired by UK Environment Secretary Margaret Beckett and Marine Affairs Minister Ben Bradshaw. More:
