Sierra Leone: Reparations Tribunal to Try Europe and USA for Crimes Against Africans

An international reparations conference will take place at the Mary Kingsley Auditorium, Fourah Bay College from September 25-26, 2006 as part of a process to build an international tribunal on reparations for African people scheduled to happen in Berlin, Germany around June 2007.

The tribunal intends to put on trial the United States, Europe and other imperialist nations for the theft and plunder of Africas resources and other crimes committed against Africans during the last five hundred years.

The conference is the first of series of other meetings we intend to hold in West Africa as part of this process to build the tribunal, Africanist Movement Director, Chernoh Alpha M. Bah who is also head of the Tribunals West Africa Committee said, adding, we want to identify and involve other reparations organizations, groups, individual experts and civil society activists in this region to discuss and participate in the process of building this tribunal. Bah, who was speaking at a Press Conference held at Paddys Beach Bar, Aberdeen in the westend of Freetown says the efforts to build the tribunal is the result of an immediate response to a decision made in Berlin, Germany in October of 2005 by Africans from the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Holland, France, Ghana, Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, British Virgin Islands, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Uganda, Ethiopia and Israel amongst others.

Mladic dilemma puts Serbia at crossroads of Europe

Mladic dilemma puts Serbia at crossroads of Europe General Ratko Mladic, the 63-year-old former Bosnian Serb army chief who is at large in Serbia, is a metaphor for the challenges facing much of the former Yugoslavia today. He represents the failure of western political will to prevent the killing in Bosnia, and then, once the fighting stopped, to arrest him. He also represents a crossroads in Serbia’s evolution from pariah state to full partner in Europe. To arrest Mladic and hand him over to the UN War Crimes Tribunal in The Hague would see a break from the past, a break from

A New Record For Africans Risking Boat Route to Europe Police caught nearly 1,200 people trying to reach the Canary Islands in overcrowded boats that set out from the West African country of Mauritania, setting a record for a weekend, officials said Sunday. At least 12 boats reached the islands in the span of 36 hours, Civil Guard officials said. All the migrants, including children, were in good health, they said. At least 674 people arrived Saturday, and 522 reached shore Sunday. With routes through Morocco being gradually sealed, the rising wave of African migration to Europe has been pushed hundreds of miles

Algerians risking all to enter Europe

Algerians risking all to enter Europe Early one morning in April, a desperate young Algerian man slipped into a warehouse on the outskirts of Algiers and sealed himself inside a shipping container destined for France. The guard he had bribed to let him into the warehouse begged him to reconsider. He took me in his arms. He tried to dissuade me, telling me how dangerous it was, said 27-year-old Noureddine Branine. Every year, tens of thousands of impoverished Africans lured by Europes prosperity risk their lives attempting to reach the continent illegally. European Union officials estimate the number doubled this year, though they have

Comment: The two crimes Europe has yet to atone for

Comment: The two crimes Europe has yet to atone for The statement by Iranian President Ahmedinejad on the holocaust has brought into focus the historic crime committed against Jews in Europe as well the crimes of colonialism by European states within the Muslim world. Jews have been persecuted in Europe for many centuries and this was continued by Nazi Germany before and during the Second World War during which many millions were systematically rounded up and killed. Moreover, many historians have also documented the complicity of the Western European allies in the 1930’s and 1940’s in allowing Nazi atrocities to continue for

Europe plans to track all emails and phone calls

Europe plans to track all emails and phone calls EUROPEAN ministers have agreed on plans that will force telecommunications companies to retain phone and email logs for at least six months, to help investigations into terrorism and other serious crimes. "It is an essential tool for law enforcement," said British Home Secretary Charles Clarke, who chaired the ministers' meeting. He said the plans allowed governments to decide how long telecoms companies in their nations should retain the data, as long as it was between six and 24 months. "We have agreed to a system which gives flexibility to member states who want to go
