Campbell king of Europe

New Zealander Michael Campbell’s brilliant 2005 season has landed him the prestigious European Player of the Year title.

Campbell won both the US Open and World Match Play Championship and finished second on the European Order of Merit in a dream season.

He was the unanimous choice of a panel of writers and broadcasters for the award, beating out a host of stars, including Order of Merit winner Colin Montgomerie and Sergio Garcia.

The 36-year-old says he is delighted with the honour.

“To be named European Tour Golfer of the Year for the first time is a wonderful honour,” Campbell toldAFP.
